Patient Care Assistant – Cardiovascular ICU

About the role

The Cardiovascular ICU is seeking a Patient Care Assistant to provide direct bedside support to registered nurses. This full‑time, day‑shift position involves hands‑on care for a group of patients, ensuring comfort, safety, and adherence to the care plan.

Key responsibilities

• Record vital signs, intake‑output, weight, and height.
• Encourage and assist patients with turning, coughing, deep breathing, and incentive spirometry.
• Ambulate patients, assist with transfers to bed, wheelchair, or transport.
• Provide personal care such as bed baths, oral hygiene, dressing, and linen changes.
• Empty and document drains, catheters, bedpans, and emesis basins.
• Collect urine, stool, and sputum specimens as ordered.
• Perform phlebotomy and EKG testing after required training.
• Maintain a safe environment by reporting equipment issues and handling supplies.
• Respond promptly to call lights and patient requests.

Required profile

• Ability to work under the supervision of a Team Leader and assist registered nurses.
• Willingness to function as a sitter for patients needing continuous supervision.
• Commitment to follow the patient’s Plan of Care and hospital policies.
