Ophthalmologist – Full‑time Clinical & Academic Role

About the role
This full‑time, on‑site position is based in Kanyakumari district and combines clinical ophthalmology practice with academic responsibilities within a medical college environment.
Key responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive eye care including outpatient consultations, detailed examinations, diagnosis and management of ocular conditions.
- Perform routine ophthalmic procedures and surgeries such as cataract extraction, adhering to safe surgical and infection‑control practices.
- Interpret diagnostic investigations (visual fields, OCT, ultrasound, biometry) and prescribe appropriate treatments.
- Ensure proper follow‑up, continuity of care and participate in inpatient and emergency services as needed.
- Collaborate with other medical specialties, contribute to clinical protocols, and engage in quality‑improvement initiatives.
- Teach, mentor and supervise medical students, trainees and junior staff; participate in departmental meetings and case discussions.
Required profile
- Recognized MBBS degree and postgraduate qualification in Ophthalmology (MD/MS/DNB or equivalent) with valid medical council registration.
- Strong clinical skills in diagnosing and managing both common and complex ophthalmic conditions.
- Proficiency in slit‑lamp examination, fundoscopy and cataract surgery.
- Ability to interpret ophthalmic investigations such as OCT, visual fields, ultrasound and biometry.
- Effective communication for patient interaction, documentation and education.
- Commitment to ethical practice, patient safety, empathy and respect for diverse backgrounds.
- Willingness to participate in teaching, clinical audits and continuous professional development.
