Domestic Assistant / Porter – NHS Borders Hospital

About the role

We are seeking a Domestic Assistant/Porter to join the Facilities Department at Borders General Hospital. The role is permanent, full‑time and based on‑site, providing essential cleaning and portering services to support a safe and welcoming environment for patients, visitors and staff.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver a high‑standard cleaning service across hospital wards, corridors and public areas.
• Perform portering duties such as transporting equipment, linen, waste and patient belongings as required.
• Maintain cleanliness and hygiene in accordance with NHS infection‑control policies.
• Assist with setting up rooms for clinical activities and ensure supplies are stocked.
• Report any maintenance or safety issues to the Facilities team promptly.

Required profile

• Demonstrated competence in domestic and cleaning activities.
• Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and shift demands.
• Knowledge of the NHS Borders Behavioural Framework.
• Ability to work Monday‑Friday, 30‑hour week, within the hospital environment.
• Eligibility to work in the United Kingdom and willingness to undergo required background checks.
