Chapter Lead – Engineer (Microservices, AWS)

About the role

As a Chapter Lead – Engineer you will head a team of micro‑services engineers, set best practices and drive operational excellence on ANZ’s AWS platform. You will collaborate closely with design, architecture, product and DevOps to deliver scalable, resilient and efficient cloud‑native services.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, mentor and grow a chapter (guild) of micro‑services engineers.
• Design and build scalable, secure, high‑throughput backend services from the ground up.
• Drive architectural and design decisions using modern Java and cloud‑native patterns.
• Foster an engineering culture focused on innovation, performance and reliability.
• Research and evaluate new tools, frameworks and techniques against enterprise standards.
• Participate in incident reviews, perform root‑cause analysis and lead remediation efforts.
• Collaborate with business stakeholders to refine requirements and ensure delivery.

Required profile

• 8+ years of industry experience in software engineering.
• Proven experience in micro‑services engineering and leadership.
• Strong background in Java development and cloud‑native architectures.

Required skills

• Java 21, Spring Boot 3, Spring Cloud.
• Virtual Threads (Project Loom) and Reactive programming (Reactor).
• Micronaut or Quarkus for lightweight micro‑services.
• Git and CI/CD pipelines.
• Kafka, gRPC and REST APIs.
• AWS services and containerisation.
• AWS database technologies: Aurora, RDS, Redis, ElastiCache, Oracle.
