Application Development Engineer - Electronics

About the role

3M is seeking an Application Development Engineer to drive innovation in consumer electronics. You will work with global teams to create and replicate high‑impact applications, translating customer needs into effective 3M solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with product development, sales and marketing to develop and showcase applications for consumer electronics.
• Identify optimal 3M solutions through testing, trial results and detailed customer analysis.
• Present the full 3M portfolio for display and electronics to customers via presentations, training sessions and technical events.
• Support new product launches by creating documentation, demonstration tools, videos and training materials.
• Gather voice‑of‑customer insights, generate new product ideas and conduct competitive analysis.
• Specify 3M products on OEM and tier‑1 engineering drawings and assist in transitioning production to manufacturing sites.
• Recommend lab infrastructure, plan equipment needs and work with engineering on procurement specifications.
• Deliver training to internal teams, distributors and customers, both on‑site and online.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering (Electronics, Materials Science, Chemistry or Physics).
• Minimum 5 years of R&D experience, with at least 2 years in a customer‑facing role within the electronics industry.
• Proven ability to work cross‑functionally and communicate technical results clearly.

Required skills

• Experience with tapes, adhesives, conductive materials and thermal interface materials (TIM).
• Ability to specify products on engineering drawings and support manufacturing hand‑over.
• Lab management and equipment specification skills.
