Lead Functional Safety Engineer – Electric Axle

About the role

We are seeking a Lead Functional Safety Engineer to drive safety engineering for electric axle systems at Bosch’s Bangalore development centre. The role focuses on applying ISO 26262 standards to ensure hardware and software safety across power electronics, electric machines and transmission components.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the application of ISO 26262 throughout the product development lifecycle, including safety planning and V‑model processes.
• Conduct Hazard Analysis and Risk Assessment (HARA) and develop Functional Safety Concepts (FSC) and Technical Safety Concepts (TSC).
• Perform safety analyses such as FMEA, FTA and DFA and calculate safety metrics (SPFM, LFM, PMHF) for hardware and software.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to integrate safety requirements into power electronics (inverters, DC‑DC converters), electric machines (PSM, ASM) and transmission subsystems.
• Ensure safe communication over vehicle networks (CAN, LIN) and support supplier safety activities.

Required profile

• Deep knowledge of ISO 26262 (all parts, especially 3‑6, 8‑10) and proven experience applying it in automotive projects.
• Strong background in automotive electronics, power electronics and electric machine control.
• Familiarity with vehicle network architectures and relevant automotive standards.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to influence without direct authority.
• Self‑starter attitude with ownership of tasks.
