Director – Data Platform Engineering

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Director of Data Platform Engineering to lead the design, development, and operation of a scalable, cloud‑native data platform. The role will shape an AI‑ready data ecosystem that serves multiple business domains across geographies.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and grow a high‑performing engineering team focused on reliable data platform capabilities.
• Own end‑to‑end delivery of platform components from architecture through deployment and operations.
• Partner with product managers and cross‑functional stakeholders to translate business needs into technical solutions.
• Drive implementation of modern target‑state data architecture aligned with enterprise standards.
• Establish engineering excellence across data engineering, DevOps, reliability, and operational processes.
• Ensure systems are scalable, observable, resilient, performant, and cost‑efficient.
• Collaborate with domain teams to enable reusable data products and standardized platform capabilities.
• Identify systemic engineering challenges and lead long‑term platform sustainability initiatives.
• Evaluate emerging technologies and lead proof‑of‑concepts for platform innovation.

Required profile

• 14+ years of overall experience with at least 8 years in data engineering, data platforms, or distributed data systems.
• Proven track record building and operating enterprise‑scale cloud‑native data platforms.
• Experience leading globally distributed engineering teams.

Required skills

• Google Cloud Platform (GCP) – BigQuery, Dataflow/Apache Beam, Pub/Sub, Cloud Composer/Airflow, Cloud Storage.
• Modern data architectures and lakehouse patterns.
• Distributed processing, large‑scale ingestion, transformation, and serving pipelines.
• Event‑driven and streaming architectures.
• Python programming.
• Spark and Scala for distributed data applications.
• CI/CD implementation for data pipelines, version control.
