Primary Design Engineer – Substation Projects

About the role

The Primary Design Engineer will lead the engineering activities for substation projects, ensuring accurate layout, BIM modeling, and compliance with all technical specifications. Reporting to the Design Lead, you will collaborate closely with drafting, site execution, and interdisciplinary teams to deliver high‑quality designs.

Key responsibilities

• Review and approve drawings produced by draftsmen in a timely manner.
• Coordinate with site execution and cluster teams to clarify equipment design.
• Conduct interdisciplinary checks (civil, structural, MEP, instrumentation) to obtain design concurrence.
• Ensure all designs meet specification and quality system requirements.
• Review vendor offers, documents, and perform pre‑tender engineering, including BOM estimation.
• Prepare detailed design calculations for busbars, UPS, DG, LT transformers, earthing conductors, short‑circuit forces, and sag tension.
• Compare Bill of Materials with tender quantities and manage revisions.

Required profile

• Strong knowledge of layout engineering for substation projects.
• Experience facilitating BIM 3D model development for electrical facilities.
• Familiarity with primary engineering tasks such as SLD preparation, earthing, cable routing, lighting, lightning protection, and cable‑tray routing.
• Understanding of national and international electrical codes and standards.
• Ability to work across civil, structural, mechanical, and instrumentation disciplines.
