Mining Litigation Lawyer – Mumbai

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Mining Litigation Lawyer to join our legal team in Mumbai. The role focuses on handling complex litigation and regulatory matters across the mining sector, including iron ore, coal, limestone, copper and other major minerals.

Key responsibilities

• Manage all phases of litigation arising from mining operations before courts, tribunals and regulatory bodies such as the Supreme Court, High Courts, Ministry of Mines and Mines Tribunal.
• Advise business units on compliance with the MMDR Act, environmental and forest clearances, mining plan approvals and other statutory requirements.
• Coordinate with external law firms and internal stakeholders to develop litigation strategies and ensure timely filing of pleadings.
• Oversee land acquisition, due diligence, and contract negotiation for mineral blocks.
• Maintain litigation databases, update legal MIS and manage fee schedules for counsel.
• Liaise with central and state authorities to secure mining leases, environmental permits, DGMS permissions and other regulatory approvals.

Required profile

• LLB degree with a minimum of 15 years post‑qualification experience in mining law and litigation.
• Extensive exposure to courts, tribunals and ministries related to mining and environmental regulation.
• Proven ability to manage high‑stakes litigation and regulatory compliance across India.
