Software Engineer 2

About the role

eBay’s Payment Ops Tech team is looking for a proactive Software Engineer 2 to help build and scale the global Compliance Operations platform. You will work on critical backend systems that support KYC, AML, sanctions screening, product safety and tax compliance, collaborating with senior engineers and leveraging AI/ML models in production.

Key responsibilities

• Own project modules or minor features from design through deployment with guidance from senior engineers.
• Develop distributed software components, including APIs, event‑processing pipelines and batch jobs.
• Write and maintain automated unit and integration tests to ensure code health.
• Participate in brainstorming sessions and prototype new initiatives.
• Support software releases, site upgrades and security patch applications.
• Engage in code reviews to uphold high‑quality implementation standards.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Computer Science or related field, or a Bachelor’s degree with 3+ years of relevant experience.
• 3+ years of hands‑on experience in software development and distributed systems.
• Strong Java fundamentals (Java 17+), with solid understanding of OOP, data structures and algorithms.
• Experience with Spring Framework, Spring Boot and Spring Batch.
• Familiarity with event‑processing technologies (Kafka, JMS, MQ) and relational/NoSQL databases.
• Knowledge of RESTful APIs, microservices architecture, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Exposure to AI/ML concepts or integrating ML models in production is a plus.
