Principal Engineer – Data Platforms

About the role

Invesco is looking for a Principal Engineer to lead the design and evolution of its enterprise data platform. The role will shape the architectural backbone that supports regulatory, investment, client‑experience and future AI/ML data capabilities across the global organization.

Key responsibilities

• Define and own the long‑term architecture and roadmap for the enterprise data platform.
• Act as the final design authority for platform‑level decisions and cross‑domain integrations.
• Establish, govern and evolve architectural standards, reference architectures and reusable solution patterns.
• Drive platform modernization, convergence and technical‑debt reduction initiatives.
• Provide architectural blueprints, frameworks and guardrails to global delivery teams.
• Identify and resolve systemic bottlenecks to improve scalability, reliability and operational efficiency.
• Oversee AWS‑based data services (Glue, S3, Lambda, MWAA, IAM) and Snowflake environments, including warehouse strategy, RBAC, governance and cost optimisation.
• Define observability, monitoring and reliability standards aligned with SRE principles.

Required profile

• Extensive experience designing and governing enterprise‑scale data platforms.
• Proven ability to set architectural direction and influence global engineering teams.
• Strong understanding of regulatory, security and resilience requirements for financial data.

Required skills

• AWS services: Glue, S3, Lambda, Managed Workflows for Apache Airflow (MWAA), IAM.
• Snowflake data‑warehouse architecture, RBAC and governance.
• Data ingestion, transformation, orchestration, quality, lineage and lifecycle management.
• SRE practices, observability, monitoring and alerting.
• Cloud security and cost‑control best practices.
