Lead Software Engineer – Java Development

About the role

Mastercard is seeking a Lead Software Engineer to drive Java‑based solutions that support its global digital payments platform. The role involves leading a team of engineers, shaping technical strategy, and delivering high‑quality software that meets strict service level agreements.

Key responsibilities

• Lead major software projects and complex assignments with long‑term business impact.
• Design and implement innovative, cost‑effective solutions that accelerate time‑to‑market.
• Oversee day‑to‑day system development and maintenance to meet SLA commitments.
• Collaborate with business and technical partners to define scope, value, ROI, risks and constraints.
• Develop strategic technical plans, create architecture proposals, and produce solution definitions.
• Conduct research on emerging technologies, perform Proof‑of‑Concepts, and maintain technology roadmaps.
• Partner with Project Managers to estimate costs, define technical scope, and manage project lifecycle.
• Define quality methodology, lead QA/QC processes, and support vendor selection and RFI/RFP activities.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading large‑scale software engineering teams.
• Strong expertise in Java development and software architecture.
• Ability to translate business needs into technical solutions and present them to senior stakeholders.
• Experience with strategic planning, budgeting, and ROI analysis.
• Hands‑on experience with Proof‑of‑Concept execution and technology evaluation.
