Senior Designer – Primary (Substation)

About the role

We are looking for a Senior Designer – Primary to lead the design and BIM modelling of AIS/GIS substation projects up to 400 kV for utility clients worldwide. The role involves delivering high‑quality drawings, coordinating with clients and technical leads, and ensuring projects are completed on schedule.

Key responsibilities

• Produce concept, FEED and detailed design drawings for transmission & distribution systems up to 400 kV, following international standards.
• Create primary design artefacts such as single‑line diagrams, cable schedules, interconnection schedules, specifications and bulk material take‑offs.
• Develop equipment layouts for outdoor switchyards, indoor substations, trench/tray, lighting, earthing and lightning protection.
• Resolve design and drafting issues, coordinate with project leads and attend client technical meetings.
• Manage work plans, schedules and communication within the design team.
• Utilise MicroStation, AutoCAD and Revit/Inventor substation modelling tools, as well as clash detection software (NavisWorks, Revizto).
• Apply automation tools such as Dynamo, RF tools, Ideate and Cobie where required.

Required profile

• Diploma or higher qualification in a relevant engineering discipline (preferred).
• Minimum 8 years of experience in designing and BIM modelling of AIS/GIS substations, including primary design up to 400 kV.
• Proven ability to work independently and deliver drawings to agreed quality and timelines.
• Strong communication skills for interaction with clients and international counterparts.
• Ability to handle changing workloads and tight deadlines.
