Analyst, Legal Counsel – Banking

About the role

This position is based in Mumbai and supports the corporate and investment banking businesses of a leading global bank. The Analyst, Legal Counsel will work on a wide range of banking products and capital‑markets transactions, providing legal advice and risk management.

Key responsibilities

• Provide legal advice, transaction support and risk management for corporate banking, project finance, aviation finance, acquisition finance, real estate finance, export credit, commodity and ESG finance.
• Handle capital‑markets transactions, including syndicated loans (APLMA standard) and bond issuances.
• Liaise with clients, external counsel and other transaction parties across designated product lines.
• Review, negotiate and draft administrative, vendor and IT contracts following internal guidelines.
• Collaborate with legal and functional teams in India, international legal units and local subsidiaries.
• Deliver commercially pragmatic legal support in a cost‑effective and timely manner.
• Monitor legal developments, brief senior legal management on major issues and legislative changes.
• Support group‑wide projects, litigation matters and coordinate with external counsel.

Required profile

• Qualified lawyer with experience in corporate and investment banking legal matters.
• Ability to provide independent, commercially‑sensitive advice to business units.
• Strong communication skills for interaction with internal stakeholders and external parties.
• Proactive approach to legal consultancy and issue resolution.

• Drafting and negotiation of contracts (administrative, vendor, IT).
