Social Protection Officer

About the role

The Social Protection Officer (SPO) leads the day‑to‑day operations of HelpAge India’s Mobile Health Unit (MHU) in Hazira. Reporting to the State Programme Manager, the SPO ensures effective delivery of health services to older persons, raises community awareness, and facilitates access to social protection schemes.

Key responsibilities

• Provide leadership to the MHU team, organise daily operational plans and schedules, and ensure a safe, positive work environment.
• Hire, onboard and train substitute staff, and conduct regular skill‑building sessions.
• Conduct needs assessments and community surveys to identify health issues and plan MHU visits.
• Supervise the movement and positioning of the MHU at accessible locations for beneficiaries.
• Mobilise communities, organise IEC campaigns and raise awareness of health rights and entitlements.
• Deliver individual and group counselling, emotional support and home visits for vulnerable elderly beneficiaries.
