Software Engineer (R) – Data Visualization & Analytics

About the role

Mastercard’s Economics Institute is seeking an R‑focused Software Engineer to join its Data Systems Engineering team. You will help turn anonymized transaction data into clear economic insights for internal and external audiences.

Key responsibilities

• Create compelling data visualisations that communicate economic insights to diverse stakeholders.
• Develop reusable R functions, packages, and automated workflows.
• Produce analytical reports using R Markdown or Quarto.
• Design and build scalable Shiny applications.
• Implement interactive visualisations with JavaScript charting libraries (e.g., Plotly, Highcharts, D3.js) or front‑end frameworks (React, Angular, Vue.js).
• Work with databases and data platforms such as SQL and Hadoop.
• Write clear, well‑documented code and collaborate via Git version control.

Required profile

• Proficient in R and the RStudio/Posit IDE.
• Experienced with R packages for data manipulation (e.g., dplyr) and documentation (roxygen2).
• Familiar with Git, GitHub or Bitbucket for collaborative development.
• Strong SQL skills and experience with relational databases.
• Creative, detail‑oriented, and able to work both independently and within cross‑functional teams.
