Software Development Engineer (SDE‑I) – Remote, Full‑Time

About the role

Emergence is a thematic holding company that scales category‑defining software businesses. As a Software Development Engineer (SDE‑I) you will build reliable backend systems that support multiple portfolio companies, delivering features that directly impact customers.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain microservices and APIs that meet uptime and latency targets.
• Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks in code or infrastructure, quantifying improvements.
• Ship end‑to‑end features, including writing tests, conducting code reviews, and handling incident response.
• Propose and prototype architecture solutions to address scalability challenges.
• Build logging, monitoring, and alerting systems to surface actionable issues before they affect users.
• Mentor junior engineers through code reviews and pairing sessions.

Required profile

• Proficiency in at least one backend language (Python or Node.js) with production experience.
• Strong SQL skills and ability to optimise PostgreSQL queries and schema design.
• Experience designing, debugging, and operating microservices or distributed systems with REST APIs.
• Comfortable working in fast‑moving environments, shipping code, and debugging production issues under pressure.
• Good product sense and experience delivering end‑to‑end projects.
