Senior Lecturer / Associate Professor – Intellectual Disability Mental Health

About the role

The University of New South Wales seeks a senior academic leader to advance intellectual and developmental disability mental health through research, teaching, and clinical capacity building. This position will shape a translational, co‑designed research programme and strengthen partnerships across health services and the disability sector.

Key responsibilities

• Lead a research programme focused on improving mental health outcomes for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, including autism.
• Collaborate with NSW Health, government agencies, healthcare providers and people with lived experience to enhance service delivery and evidence‑based practice.
• Develop and deliver innovative education and training programmes (both face‑to‑face and online) within the Discipline of Psychiatry and Mental Health.
• Mentor emerging researchers, supervise high‑calibre students and support early‑career academics.
• Contribute to policy influence, sector partnerships and national research leadership.

Required profile

• MBBS/MD, PhD or equivalent with distinguished experience in psychiatry, psychology or a related health discipline.
• Extensive experience working with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities.
• Demonstrated record of high‑impact, peer‑reviewed research.
• Proven ability to develop and deliver education and training in disability mental health.
• Strong relationships with external stakeholders, including government and community organisations.
• Experience co‑designing research with people with lived experience and supervising graduate students.

Required skills

What we offer

• Academic Level C/D salary $155,000–$185,000 plus 17% superannuation and annual leave loading.
• Fixed‑term contract until 23 April 2027 (0.5–1.0 FTE).
