About the role
The Railway Rolling Stock System Engineer will act as the manufacturing inspector for rail vehicles such as locomotives, EMUs, DMUs, coaches or metro trains. Based in Mumbai, you will ensure that every component and assembly complies with technical specifications, applicable standards and quality requirements throughout fabrication, assembly, testing and final acceptance.
Key responsibilities
- Perform in‑process and final inspections of rolling‑stock components and assemblies.
- Conduct witness and hold‑point inspections according to Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs).
- Identify non‑conformities, document NCRs and track corrective actions.
- Inspect welded structures for EN 15085 compliance and review welding procedures, qualifications and welder certifications.
- Carry out visual and dimensional checks on carbody structures and critical components.
- Verify installation of electrical wiring, panels and onboard systems against schematics.
- Witness functional, type and acceptance tests (FAI, FAT, SAT, SIT, static and dynamic tests) and ensure proper test documentation.
- Maintain detailed inspection records, quality reports and checklists.
- Review manufacturing dossiers, quality records and certification packages to ensure traceability.
- Audit supplier facilities and monitor subcontractor quality performance.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in rolling‑stock manufacturing, inspection or quality control.
- Familiarity with major systems: carbody, bogies, electrical/traction and train integration.
- Knowledge of EN 15085, EN 12663, EN 45545, IEC standards and quality‑process tools.
