Principal Software Engineer – Java Architect, Microservices & Cloud

About the role

Mastercard is looking for a Principal Software Engineer to lead the design and delivery of real‑time payments (RTP) platforms. You will own complex services, drive architectural decisions and ensure the platform meets strict performance, security and reliability standards across multiple markets.

Key responsibilities

• Define and own the architecture and detailed design for RTP products and platform capabilities.
• Establish reference architectures, design patterns and engineering standards such as microservices, event‑driven and domain‑driven design.
• Design, build, and maintain high‑quality Java‑based software components and services.
• Lead technical design reviews and mentor engineers on best practices.
• Make key implementation decisions covering performance, scalability, reliability, security and observability.

Required profile

• Senior individual contributor with deep hands‑on experience in large‑scale, mission‑critical systems.
• Proven ability to stay close to code while influencing architecture and product design.
• Strong track record of delivering resilient, low‑latency services in a regulated environment.
