Primary Designer – Substation BIM & Design

About the role

Jacobs is seeking a Primary Designer to lead the design and BIM modelling of AIS/GIS substation projects up to 400 kV. The role involves delivering high‑quality drawings, coordinating with clients and technical leads, and ensuring projects are completed on schedule.

Key responsibilities

• Produce concept, FEED and detailed design drawings for transmission & distribution systems.
• Develop primary design artefacts such as single‑line diagrams, cable schedules, interconnection schedules, specifications and bulk material take‑offs.
• Create equipment layouts for outdoor switchyards, indoor substations, trench/tray, lighting, earthing and lightning protection.
• Resolve design and drafting issues, coordinate with project leads and attend client technical meetings.
• Maintain design quality standards and adhere to mutually agreed timelines.
• Utilise BIM tools for clash detection and model coordination.

Required profile

• Diploma or higher qualification preferred.
• 2–16 years of experience in designing and BIM modelling of AIS/GIS substations.
• Knowledge of primary design for utilities up to 400 kV, following international standards.
• Ability to work independently, manage changing workloads and communicate confidently with clients and foreign counterparts.

Required skills

• Proficiency in MicroStation and AutoCAD.
• Working knowledge of Revit or Inventor for substation modelling.
• Experience with NavisWorks, Revizto, and clash detection tools.
• Familiarity with automation tools such as Dynamo, RF tools, Ideate, and Cobie.
• Exposure to Bentley ProjectWise and BIM 360 is desirable.
