Junior Legal Counsel – Remote (India)

About the role

We are looking for a Junior Legal Counsel to join Castellan Real Estate Partners’ in‑house legal team. The role is fully remote from India and supports the company’s U.S. real‑estate platform. The successful candidate must hold a license to practice law in the United States and be able to translate legal analysis into clear business guidance.

Key responsibilities

• Draft, review, and negotiate real‑estate, corporate, commercial and operational documents such as purchase & sale agreements, NDAs, lease agreements, listing agreements and internal policies.
• Conduct legal research on affordable housing, landlord‑tenant disputes, land use, fair housing, data privacy and construction defects at federal and state levels.
• Support day‑to‑day legal needs of property and asset management, including rent‑stabilized leasing, renewal packages, tenant disputes and compliance.
• Prepare internal guidance on U.S. federal, state and local real‑estate law, including New York and California regulations.
• Assist pre‑litigation processes, organize documentation, draft case summaries and maintain litigation trackers.
• Coordinate with external counsel on landlord‑tenant, construction defect, insurance, corporate and affordable‑housing matters, tracking deadlines and budgets.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams such as acquisitions, finance, investor relations, construction, lending and IT/AI to address legal issues.

Required profile

• Active license to practice law in the United States.
• Detail‑oriented with strong drafting and review abilities.
• Proven ability to conduct thorough legal research and produce concise guidance.
• Experience handling landlord‑tenant, real‑estate and corporate matters, preferably in a U.S. context.
• Ability to manage multiple matters, meet deadlines and work independently in a remote setting.
