Deputy Manager – Engineering & Maintenance

About the role

The Deputy Manager – Engineering & Maintenance will lead the engineering projects and maintenance function for a paint and CED plant in Mangalore. Reporting to the Production Head, you will ensure smooth plant operation with minimal breakdowns while upholding safety, quality and compliance standards.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate engineering projects, CAPEX, OPEX and MOC initiatives as project manager.
• Oversee plant maintenance strategy, including preventive, predictive and breakdown maintenance.
• Manage utility plants (thermal fluid, nitrogen, compressed air, de‑ionised water) to guarantee continuous supply.
• Develop and control the annual maintenance budget and critical spares inventory.
• Ensure compliance with BASF licence requirements, ISO 9001, ISO 14001, IATF and internal safety standards.
• Drive vendor development and quality management for contractor fabrication works.
• Collaborate with production, warehouse, labs, engineering, procurement, HR and other functions.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• 10‑15 years of plant maintenance experience, with at least 4‑5 years leading multidisciplinary teams of 12+ members.
• Strong knowledge of safety, quality and environmental management systems.
• Proven ability to manage budgets, projects and utility operations.
